Rosetown Harvest Family Festival
I was asked by the Rosetown Harvest Family Festival committee to take some photos at last year's event. Of course, I jumped at the chance because it is such a fun weekend and a great opportunity for me to get out in the community and do something different.It really wasn't that out of the box for me to photograph this event though. I worked at newspapers and spent a lot of time taking photos at events just like this. But it was fun to do it again, and look at the people, the activities and the town in a new way.Rosetown is such a great town to live in. I've been here since 2010 and have always loved how welcome I feel, and how family-friendly it is here. The Harvest Family Festival emphasizes that. It is a whole weekend just for families, to get out, have fun and celebrate the town and the province we live in. It is so great to see the community, and all the surrounding ones, come together for this.For me, it started on Thursday night at the Civic Centre. I attended the Donny Parenteau concert, with Brock's House Band opening for him. What a great show! It was upbeat, fun, and the music was fantastic.Keep reading for more about this terrific festival!
Saturday morning was the big parade. I have been to plenty of small-town parades, and I have to say that this one is one of the best. It has everything from clowns, horses, bands, floats, lots of candy of course and tons of local faces. This year the sun was shining and it was a perfect day for it. The streets were lined with people anxious to see everything, and it did not disappoint.
Throughout the day there was so much to do, I had a hard time getting around to see it all! Balloon animals, face painting, fish pond, bouncy houses, a remote control vehicle competition. The Wide Open Theatre puppet show was awesome. And oh my gosh the food. I don't have photos of the food, but I tasted some of it and it was amazing. There were mini donuts and perogies, and fresh baking and so much more.The day was spent going from activity to activity, snapping shots along the way
The day ended with a bang - literally. And once again I have to praise this town and all the amazing sponsors for putting this all off. The fireworks display is the best I've seen anywhere. It is put off to music, and it goes on and on. It is so much fun to hear people raving about how awesome they are each year.It was especially fun for me to take photos of the fireworks because it's something I don't get to do often. I love seeing what cool shots I can get!
