“This year has been a blur for me. There were hard moments, tears and stress. I worried a lot and felt lost sometimes. But like every year at this time, I am trying not to dwell on those things. Because there were lots of bright moments too. I saw sunsets and sunrises, I traveled and laughed and played with my girls. I have to remember those things and look toward the sun, as it sets on this year and rises on a new one. Reflect yes, but don’t let the hard times define me and where I am going.”
Every now and then I start thinking about where I am and how I got here. I believe that’s important to do. Sometimes it’s a struggle because I don’t want to remember hard times, I don’t want to bring back painful memories. It’s important to move on and look towards the future.
But reflecting is important too, because sometimes we remember things we would have otherwise forgotten. I use photographs to remember and reflect on the happy times. We don’t often take photos of sad moments, so looking back through old photos can make us remember the good times, the happiness, the joy.
Doing this Project 52 has helped me reflect on each year as it goes by. I love how each image captures a moment from that week, that moment in time. I can glance at all the photos and see our year. And that makes me happy.
