“Every morning the girls run from room to room, searching for their Elf, Dee Dee. It’s so fun to watch their excitement. Today Dee Dee was roasting marshmallows over a candle, and the girls got a big kick out of it.”
Every year at Christmas time, people start posting photos of their Elf on the Shelf. I’m sure you’ve all seen them. What is that crazy elf up to this morning? I admit, I did it too. But this year I tried to be creative.
Here’s the thing. The Elf on the Shelf is cute and all (or creepy?), and as photogenic as he (or she) is everyone gets tired of seeing that elf over and over in photos.
It’s not about the elf.
It has to be able the kids. This is their experience. We are not going to print these photos of the elf sitting on the kitchen counter. But we just might print the ones of the kids laughing at their elf making “snow” angels in the flour. Right?
So I decided to take some photos of the girls checking out their Elf one morning. Then they started rearranging the ornaments on the tree so I took some photos of that too. It’s a simple moment but it is what tells the story.
