“We had our first snowfall today. It was just a dusting, but it left a layer of bright white in between the blades of still green grass, among the brown branches and lingering leaves on the bushes in our backyard. I don’t love this time of year, but there is something magical about that first snowfall.”
Every now and then I like to take photos of nature. I am no landscape photographer, but it’s fun to step outside the box and look for the details around me. Those kinds of details can help you remember moments just as much as images of people.
It also forces me to look at the things around with new perspective. It’s easy to get in a rut sometimes and take the same photos over and over, especially when you are forced to play in the same places – like your backyard – all the time. On this particular day, I tried to view the scene differently, focusing on the trees for this theme. So as Sofia rode her tricycle down the sidewalk I glanced up at the tall trees and knew I had to incorporate them into a shot.
We were only outside for a few short and chilly minutes, but it’s our memory of the first snowfall of winter 2015.
