First things first, this post has 11 photos. I simply couldn’t narrow it down. In fact, I took about 200 photos that day so you’re lucky I got it down to only 11 haha. This month, I’m sharing our day trip to St. Andrews By the Sea.

What is “10 on 10”? Read my previous posts:

I love the ocean. I grew up by the ocean in Newfoundland and never appreciated it until I moved away (isn’t that always the way?) While living in Saskatchewan when people asked if I missed home I always replied: “I miss the ocean”.

“For whatever we lose (like a you or a me), It’s always our self we find in the sea.” – E.E. Cummings

When we moved back to the east coast, I was very excited to be near the ocean again. In Fredericton, we are not that close to the coast. So after living here for 10 months, we finally made our way there to breathe in the salt air again.

It was our first time visiting St. Andrews. I had heard so many wonderful things about this seaside town and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Minister’s Island was an incredible look back into the past, and our favourite part of it was the rocky beach below the famous bathhouse. We spent a long time there at low tide (because that’s the only time the road to the island is accessible) searching for creatures between the rocks, trying not to step on periwinkles and collecting shells.

“For her, the ocean was more than a dream. It was a place she needed to visit to find herself. and when she returned to the city, you could see the sun in her eyes, the wind in her hair, and taste the infinite salt on her lips.” – Jose Chaves

After our visit to the island, we ventured downtown to walk along Water St. exploring little shops, the big pier and of course to get ice cream.

It won’t be our last visit to St. Andrews By the Sea. There’s something whimsical about it. And the ocean calls to me, so I know I have to go back.

This year I have joined a group of photographers to document our days through blog posts on the 10th day of every month. We’ll each be posting 10 images that we took in the previous month. If you’d like to read all of the posts, click the link at the end of this post to continue the loop.
