My one and only little brother got married this past July! I wasn’t their wedding photographer because I was a bridesmaid, but I offered to take some belated engagement photos for them before the big day. It was my gift to them, and a little gift to myself because honestly, how often do I get to take photos in my home province of Newfoundland where there are trees, hills and OCEAN?!
There were so many options for locations, because to me and my camera everything was new and exciting, but we decided to go with a place that is very familiar to all of us. I grew up in the small town of Botwood, where there isn’t much to do but there is a lot of beautiful scenery. Killick Island is a tiny island, attached to the land by a road that is a popular place for locals to walk, picnic or just hang out. I don’t know many people from Botwood who hadn’t spend many hours out on “The Island”.
I was determined to do a sunset session with them, and the weather was on my side. That doesn’t happen much in Newfoundland, just ask Jeff and Bethany who had torrential rain on their wedding day. Not that night though, we had a gorgeous sunset, and I was in photographer’s heaven!
My brother and I were never really close growing up. We are almost four years apart in age and so we never had many mutual friends. I spent most of my childhood complaining about him picking on me. Since we’ve grown up, we’ve never lived near each other and haven’t kept in touch as much as we should. But every time we are together now, I realize that he is a great guy and tons of fun and I love hanging out with him.
And now he’s married, to a super sweet girl who would do anything for the people she loves. Bethany is so beautiful, inside and out, and I couldn’t be happier that Jeff found her. They have been together for a few years already so they know each other better than most newlyweds. They compliment each other so well, and I just know they are going to have a long and happy marriage.
We had such a blast taking photos that night, and I’m so glad I talked them into it. It gave us a chance to spend some time together, and for them to get some fun, intimate and relaxed photos of themselves. Thanks you guys for letting me take your photos and for being such awesome models! I’m lucky to have such a wonderful brother and sister-in-law xox
