I could follow kids around all day, especially toddlers. I love to watch them explore, investigate and discover. This happy little girl, Clara, was a joy to photograph, and I’ll tell you why.
When parents look at their children, they see the little things. Like the wisp of hair that won’t stay down, the funny faces their kids make all the time, a scar from a boo boo.
When I take photos of kids I try to capture those things. The only way to do that is to let them be themselves. I don’t fuss with their messy hair or edit out boo boos. I especially don’t force them to stay still.
Clara wandered around Odell Park and I let her lead the way. She picked leaves, found sticks on the trail, examined many flowers. She laughed, and we laughed with her.
I took a lot of photos, and it might seem excessive to some. But I know that her mom sees every image as a piece of her happy little girl. This little girl has personality. Now, almost a year later, she has changed and maybe many of the details of who she is have changed. But she has these photos to remember every one.
