Fredericton Pride Festival 2018 | New Brunswick Lifestyle Photographer

September 2, 2018

I have always wanted to go to a Pride Festival. This year I got the chance to be in the Fredericton Pride Festival parade with the Girl Guides of Canada. We were there representing the 1st Oromocto Brownie unit. It wasn’t a big group, but it was a passionate group promoting our organization and support the LGBTQ community.

Ok, all seriousness aside, this was so much FUN! I only regret not being more prepared with rainbow gear. Luckily we were given some boas to brighten us up, and we shared bubbles to blow along the route.

I have always been a big supporter of the LGBTQ community. It’s close to my heart for many reasons, so to be able to join in the celebration of #loveislove was so amazing. I also wanted my daughter to see how important it is to accept everyone no matter who they are or who they love.

There was a sense of sadness behind the celebrating and joy because just two days earlier Fredericton was hit hard by the loss of four individuals in a shooting. Two of those lives were Fredericton police officers. During the parade, we passed a blue ribbon from the start to finish to honour the two officers lost. And I could see the emotions of any police who were present.

I was proud to be a part of the Fredericton Pride Festival. The photos I took show the joy and happiness, celebration, support and solidarity of the incredible people of Fredericton. It was an honour to be there, and I hope these images do it justice.
