Just before Christmas I was invited into the home of a lovely family. They told me they wanted to make some memories together at home doing the things they always love doing together. This made me so excited because, if you’ve been following my work, that is exactly my favourite thing to capture of families.
We started off their session with them dressed up for a few formal portraits. That soon turned into tickles on the couch. Then they were eager to get into their (matching) pjs and relax! It’s funny how a simple change of wardrobe can completely change the feeling of a session. That’s why I always tell families to wear something they are comfortable in, instead something they wouldn’t normally wear.
One of their favourite things to do together is read.
This kid love insects! He took out his book and immediately starting telling me about the bugs. I was amazed at how much he knows, and I could tell mom and dad were super proud of him.
Soon we moved into the kitchen for another favourite pastime of theirs – cooking. And making messes. I had to laugh as I watched mom pull ingredients from the cupboards and hand them to her son to pour into a bowl. The best part of all was watching him crack and egg and their celebration when he did it perfectly!
Every single details counts.
I tried to be a fly on the wall as they made a big mess together. I loved so much that mom and dad didn’t care about the flour on the floor or the egg on the counter. It was all part of making memories. Even the clean up process, and wiping flour off of each other’s noses.
I may have joined in and had some chocolate as they sat at the dining room table to build with Lego together. I could tell “A” loves his Lego! All the colours were organized into separate containers (mom goals). He built a truck for Santa to ride on!
No lifestyle family session is complete without a bit of cuddling and simple playtime. This family was so much fun because I could tell they really enjoy spending time together playing and being silly. I hope I was able to truly capture their dynamic and the love between them.
