Prince Edward Island has always had a piece of my heart. When I was a little girl we went there frequently as a family, visiting and camping along the way. I remember Rainbow Valley, the red sand beaches and all the hilly farmland. I took my girls to PEI for the first time over Thanksgiving, and this is Our Documented Days.
Sofia just wanted to go to Anne of Green Gables. We had started reading the book and had watched the first season of the new snow, ANNE. But before we could go there, we went exploring near our friends’ home just outside of Charlottetown.
They took us to the most beautiful trail on a wet Saturday morning. The colours were vibrant and the air was cool.
Then we took a drive up to the north coast, where we played in the sand and wind at North Rustico beach.
I’m so glad we live in a world where there are Octobers.”Anne of Green Gables, L.M. Montgomery
Then my girls’ dream came true as we visited Anne’s house. I couldn’t get her to dress up in the clothes, but she loved exploring the grounds and seeing Anne’s bedroom in the little house.
We headed back down south and discovered the most beautiful gem of a beach at Canoe Cove.
The next morning the sun tried to break through the clouds as we took a little walk, played in the leaves and Grace made friends with slugs (ew).
Finally as we said goodbye to the Island, we stopped at Confederation Bridge and the girls were in awe of it’s size.
We love Prince Edward Island and we will definitely be back.
