Families come in so many different shapes and sizes, and I believe that pets are part of our families too. Christy was the winner of the gift certificate for a free session that I donated to the Happy Hour Club‘s first event. When she told me she wanted a session with her dog Lewis, I was so excited! A pet session is something every animal lover should do.
Playing in the leaves
I knew that Christy was a bit curious, and maybe even worried, about how I would manage to get much variety with just the two of them. But I wasn’t concerned. I suggested we take Lewis for a little walk at the Oromocto Wetlands, because I knew it would make for some nice scenery (especially in the fall!) and lots of opportunities for different shots.
The leaves were gorgeous that day and the trail was quiet. It couldn’t have been a more perfect morning. Christy brought along some toys and treats for Lewis, so that made my job even easier. What a cute little model Lewis was!
I learned a few things during this session:
- Dogs need to be bribed to look at the camera (just like kids!)
- Dogs do not listen to me very well (just like my kids lol)
- When shooting with animals, bring distractions or else they will run the opposite direction.
- At least I didn’t have to worry about the dog crying and refusing to do anything haha.
We walked along the trail, stopping to set out a blanket and to play with a ball. It was relaxed and easy and so much fun. But the best part of all is that now Christy has some beautiful photos of her fur baby, that I know she’ll treasure for a long long time.
