This is the second half of the family sessions I did at Gilbert Farm in Burton in October 2018. I wanted to hold a day of sessions for families that would give them time to spend together and have fun, and have photos to take away from the experience.
Gilbert Farm was the perfect place to hold these sessions, first of all because it’s so beautiful there! It sits on a hill overlooking the Saint John River, and away from the busy road. It’s not huge but there are rows of beautiful apple trees and a wide open field. The owners were welcoming and excited for the families to come.
It made me happy to be able to introduce some new customers to this little gem of a place.
The thing that made these sessions so wonderful is that they weren’t structured in any way. When the families showed up I could tell some of them were expecting me to have a set with props and to start telling them where to sit and how to pose. But I didn’t do any of that.
I gave them a basket and told them to start picking apples. That’s it. The kids caught on quickly and were excited to find the biggest and shiniest apples they could. But mom and dad were a little hesitant at first. I get it, it felt weird to do something and have a photographer following you around. But it only took a few minutes for them to almost forget I was there. They were having fun!
I think these images speak for themselves. These families made memories together. My hope is that this experience will make them want to make apple picking – or having a lifestyle session – a regular event. You can decide for yourself if you agree :)
